Our intensive outreach service focuses on reaching those people who have very little contact with their local community and are, by definition, very hard to reach.
The intensive outreach approach removes the barriers to reaching people by working with communities at a very local level to identify those who may be socially isolated and get your message across in a sensitive and appropriate way. It is particularly useful if you need to communicate information about a change that is going to affect everyone, such as the switch to digital TV.
How it works
As with our other outreach services we will work with you to identify your message, the target groups you want to reach, and the outcomes you want to achieve – and whether it would be of benefit to use our intensive outreach service.
We provide training to staff and volunteers from community-based organisations which operate at a very local level. These people then speak to a range of people in their local community who may know of a person with significant barriers. For example, a mobile hairdresser who visits someone who hardly ever leaves their home, or a waitress in a local cafe who sees the same shy person come in every week.
These people can then approach the people they are aware of in a sensitive way to find out if they are aware of your subject and whether they need any help or advice.
Why is it effective?
Our intensive outreach approach reaches people who may otherwise ‘fall through the cracks’. People are approached in an unobtrusive way by a neighbour or somebody they know, who they can speak to again if they have questions or want to know more.
Just by having a simple conversation with someone, a volunteer can make a real difference to a person’s attitude towards your subject and create lasting behavioural change.The intensive outreach approach can create long lasting positive benefits to people’s lives. As a result of a volunteer making contact, people may find out about other services they might be eligible for, feel more confident and become included in their local community.
