Home visits

Through our VCS partners we are able to provide expert advice and support to people in their own homes. The home visit service can help you reach people who experience barriers to accessing a service or product – for example, because they cannot easily leave their home, find it difficult to use the telephone or struggle with completing forms.

How does it work?

We will work with you to identify whether a home visit service is needed and how best to break down the barriers that may be preventing people from using your service. For example, you may wish to offer people the chance to speak to someone face to face about service options if they find it difficult to hear very well using the phone.

We source CRB checked volunteers through our VCS partners and train them so they are confident in providing the support and advice you are offering. When somebody requests a home visit, we will arrange for a volunteer to visit them to provide the service you have offered.

We can tailor our service to meet your requirements. Please read our case study for an example of the benefits a home visit service can provide.

Why is it effective?

The home visit service makes people feel supported, building their confidence and encouraging them to interact with programmes. Friendly, well-trained volunteers help to break down barriers –whether this is by filling in an application form for someone who has arthritis, handling a phone call for someone who is not confident to do it themselves, or by being there as a ‘chaperone’ when a member of your staff visits someone in their home.

We work with local and national VCS organisations to recruit volunteers, allowing us to set up a home visit service anywhere in the UK. We work with sector partners who are already experienced in working with your specific client group and have a natural understanding of their needs.

The service is safe and secure. All volunteers providing the home visit service are registered and checked to current standards and personal details are made anonymous.

The impact of the home visit service

The home visit service encourages people to interact with your service or programme when they may not otherwise be able to do so. The service can be tailored to remove a range of barriers that people face, ensuring that more people are given the opportunity to take up services, advice and support that is available.

We are able to report on the number of people who receive a home visit, the numbers of volunteers we have trained, and the cost of providing the service per person to enable you to demonstrate value for money.
