Ian Smith is regional manager for the Meridian TV region. Ian brings operational and senior management experience from diverse roles in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors.
General management, customer service, marketing and business development have featured consistently throughout Ian's career. Since 2003 Ian has operated as an interim manager and consultant, working primarily with individual and consortia of local authorities, training providers, colleges and not-for-profit business support organisations. His role has included advising on, designing, funding and setting up workforce skills initiatives and support services for small businesses.
Ian was Customer Services Director of a highly successful college of further education for six years. Here, he fostered strategic alliances which led to a not-for-profit company, funded and supported by a consortium of local authorities and training providers, being set up to deliver workforce training brokerage services across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
Ian's management career and project management experience was founded in a range of customer service, marketing and business development roles with Granada UK Rental and Retail Ltd, where he led local and geographically dispersed teams of all sizes.
Born and raised in Shropshire, Southampton is now home. Football and travel are Ian's favourite pastimes, but gardening seems to take more than its fair share of free time. Classing himself something of 'hacker' on the golf course, Ian's advice is not to stand too close...in any direction.
